Musician's guide
Add weight, definition and audible texture to bass, 808s, kick drums, bass buses and full mixes that need careful low-end reinforcement.
First listen: find the direction
Decide whether you need weight, clarity or stability. Solve one problem at a time.
- Insert the plug-in on a track or bus carrying audio.
On first use, complete activation or the available trial flow. Loop music containing representative bass notes, strong beats and decays, and judge it within the full arrangement.
- Use focus A to find the area that needs reinforcement.
Start with Clean. Temporarily lower A's Mix, then slowly adjust Freq to find a position that fills out the sound without masking kick or vocals. New instances default to Color.
- Use Amount for strength and Mix for its place in the arrangement.
Gradually raise Mix to hear the difference. If weight or saturation is excessive, reduce Amount or Drive. Louder does not automatically mean better.
- Add one treatment based on what you hear.
Try Tight for loose bass, dynamics control for uneven notes, or a little Drive and Harmonics for texture. Keep B Mix at 0 until A is working, then consider the second path.
- Compare with the original, then save.
Turn off Solo Low, compare using host bypass and adjust Out Gain toward a similar perceived level. Check the strongest beat, lowest note and mono playback before saving the project or a user preset.
Choose a tone mode
Clean · restrained reinforcement
Start here to preserve the original shape with a little more bass. Nonzero Drive or Harmonics still changes the tone.
Color · weight and texture
The default mode. Adjust enhancement and coloration together, using Drive and Harmonics to find the bass's place in the arrangement.
Sub · a deeper center of gravity
Emphasizes deeper bass processing. Try it on 808s, deep bass or cinematic weight, while watching speaker capability and output headroom.
A and B share the mode.Recheck both paths after changing mode. Sub changes bass processing; it does not transpose the input down an octave or restore bass performances absent from the source.
Shape the low end
Freq: choose the position
A's range is 40~200 Hz. Move lower for depth and weight or higher for body and definition. Mode, Tightness and Low Cut also affect the result. This is not a parametric EQ with an independent Q control.
Amount and Mix: two steps for deciding how much
Amount sets enhancement before tone shaping, so it also affects saturation. Mix controls how much of that path's processed enhancement is added to the original signal. Find the texture with Amount, then set its proportion in the music with Mix.
Tight: shape the deepest bass contribution
Raising Tight changes low-end shaping in the enhancement path, usually reducing the deepest contribution. Try it on loose bass. It is not a compressor Attack control and does not directly set decay length.
Drive and Harmonics: find a recognizable texture
Increase them separately in small steps and check on headphones and smaller speakers. They interact; excessive amounts can sound rough or indistinct. They are not independent faders for particular harmonic orders.
If the material is already thick, lower Mix before adding processing. When bass is unclear on small speakers, try a little harmonic shaping instead of continually adding deeper bass.
Control dynamics and decay
Each path has Dyn Ctrl、Target、Release. These control the dynamics of that path's bass enhancement, rather than compressing the full-range track.
- Target: decide when control is needed.
Play the strongest bass notes or beats and gradually lower Target. Watch the detection level around the knob cross the threshold and listen for steadier enhancement. A high Target may rarely trigger dynamics processing.
- Dyn Ctrl: set control depth.
Increase gradually from a small amount. Back off if attacks soften or bass loses bounce. At 0%, this path applies no dynamic attenuation.
- Release: match recovery to the music.
Shorter times recover more quickly; longer times generally smooth the transitions between bass notes. Loop the transition from a strong beat to the next note and listen for natural rhythm and decay.
Two frequency focuses with separate jobs
A can establish the foundation and B add definition, or vice versa. Set each focus independently for the material.
Click the central ADV button to expand both control sets. The upper row is A, and the lower row is B. In the tone section, each row has independent Freq, Amount, Tight and Mix; the harmonics section on the left also provides separate Drive, Harmonics, Dyn Ctrl, Target and Release。
What does independent control mean?
Changing A's frequency does not move B. Give A more weight while B adds only a little harmonic texture or stronger dynamics control. Each path has its own Mix, so remove one contribution at any time to hear what the other is doing.Mode, low cut, mono bass and output controls remain shared.
A · bass foundation
This example uses A for deeper weight at Amount 44% and Mix 78%. Establish a balanced foundation first.
Example settings, not a universal bass recipe.B · bass definition
B adds body at a higher position, with Amount 28% and Mix 34%. A smaller contribution makes it easier to hear whether the bass becomes clearer.
The screenshot shows both focuses working together.Start with one path, then add the second
- Set B Mix to 0% and listen to A alone.
Play a passage with kick and bass together. Find weight with A's frequency and control the contribution with Amount and Mix.
- Choose B's position, then slowly raise B Mix.
If depth is sufficient but notes lack definition, try B above A. If the mix becomes duller or crowded, reduce its contribution or move the focus.
- Match each path's dynamics to its role.
If A's deep-bass tails are uneven, adjust A's dynamics only. Keep B lighter if note movement should remain. Dynamics depth need not match.
- Remove each path in turn, then check the combined result.
Use its Mix to suspend A or B's enhancement and confirm that each solves a real problem. Finally leave Solo Low and compare at similar levels in the full mix.

Bass narrowing → auto gain → output gain / ceiling
Ranges and switches: A spans 40–200 Hz; B currently spans 0–200 Hz. B's 0 Hz is a parameter boundary, not an off switch. B Mix defaults to 0%, so turning B Freq alone may be inaudible. Raise Mix to add its enhancement.
Collapsing ADV only hides controls. An enabled B path keeps processing. Enhancement frequencies need not match Mono Freq: the former select enhancement positions, the latter selects narrowing position.
Low cut and mono bass
Low Cut: leave space for useful bass
Range: 10~45 Hz, default 20 Hz. Removes sub-bass from the normal processing path and affects the lower edge of enhancement. Raise it while playing the lowest note, then back off if the note thins. Do not use one low-cut value for every instrument.
Mono Bass: choose the amount of narrowing
Range: 0~100%, default 60%. Increasing it reduces low-frequency left/right differences while retaining the center. Try it on diffuse stereo bass; it also changes spatial character, so judge it within the music.
Mono Freq: choose where narrowing acts
Current range: 40~200 Hz, default 120 Hz. Raise it to extend narrowing into higher bass or lower it to focus on deep bass. Choose the range first, then use Mono Bass for intensity.
If mono playback weakens the bass, first check sources, layers and left/right phase. This function cannot recover cancelled content or replace arrangement and phase decisions between kick and bass.
Monitoring and level comparison
| Operation | What you hear |
|---|---|
| Solo Low | The A/B enhancement actually added, including each path's tone, dynamics and Mix. Use it to identify added content; it is not a low-pass monitor of the original input. |
| Both A and B Mix at 0 | Removes both enhancement contributions, while global low cut, narrowing, gain and final safety processing may remain active. |
| Host bypass / Original in analysis | Latency-aligned original input. Original comparison bypasses plug-in processing, including the current output gain and ceiling. |
In Solo Low, normal bass narrowing and auto gain do not participate. Output gain and final safety processing may still change the level.Leave Solo Low before judging the result.
Auto Gain
Smooth level compensation reduces level differences caused by enhancement. 0% turns it off. It is not LUFS matching and cannot guarantee equal perceived loudness. Compare full passages manually.
Out Gain and Ceiling
Out Gain sets final output level. Ceiling is the target for final soft limiting and true-peak safety processing. It is not a loudness target or a guarantee of platform delivery compliance.
In / Out meters observe left/right input and output peaks. Input metering is before Input Gain. Check subsequent effects and the host bus before export, rather than only this plug-in's output.
AI / MCP: conversational adjustment through Ai Linker
Identify the track, read actual measurements and send proposed settings to the plug-in for auditioning.
Bass Controller Pro® Supports DADAO-developed Ai Linker®。MCP connects AI clients with software to exchange information and call tools. In practice: describe the musical goal, identify the plug-in, play material, compare suggestions and decide whether to apply.
Interprets goals such as tighter bass or preserved attacks, explains measurements and proposes settings.
DADAO's connection tool lets compatible AI clients find and access the current plug-in instance.
Processes audio locally, supplies measurements and executes parameter changes and previews. Audio still flows through the plug-in in the DAW.
First connection: install, connect and verify the identifier
- Install the plug-in and DADAO Ai Linker separately.®。
Linker is a separate product shared by compatible DADAO plug-ins on the computer. You do not install it for each track. Use the official installer for your system.
- Configure the DADAO connection in a compatible desktop AI client.
Follow Linker's instructions to add a local stdio MCP server named dadao. Complete client confirmations and refresh the connection. Configure each AI client once. Installing Linker and establishing a working connection are separate steps.
- Open AI at the top of the plug-in.
Check Allow AI control of this instance, then wait for Connected and a four-digit identifier. Add an alias such as Kick or Bass / 808 if helpful. A display of ---- means the instance cannot yet be addressed by a four-digit identifier.
- Ask AI to list plug-ins and verify the target.
Say: List my open DADAO plug-ins. Verify the identifier and track before adjusting. Use the identifier currently displayed; it may change when the service restarts. The screenshot's 0002 is an example.
I have installed DADAO Ai Linker. Follow its installation instructions to check and configure this client's dadao MCP connection, then list DADAO plug-ins in the DAW.
Automatic configuration depends on the client's capabilities and permissions. Verify success against the actual instance list.
Measure, audition, then apply
- Tell AI the material's role and the sound you want to improve.
Specify bass, 808, kick, bass bus or full mix. Ask for analysis without parameter changes, or provide exact values.
- Play around 15 seconds of representative material when prompted.
After AI starts analysis, the plug-in shows its listening state. Play representative beats, bass notes and decays, then wait for the report when capture finishes. AI does not start the DAW for you. The animation represents local capture and feature analysis.
- Ask AI to propose separate A/B roles from the measurements.
The plug-in supplies objective input/output levels, spectrum, dynamics and stereo observations. AI uses these to propose frequency, amount, dynamics and Mix settings. The two focuses can be adjusted independently; they need not share values.
- Audition Original and Suggested, then decide whether to apply.
Suggested previews temporarily change the audible processing without immediately overwriting saved parameters. Watch the level difference. After explicitly applying, check the controls and full musical passage. If you changed parameters manually in the meantime, ask AI to read them again.
Example requests
Specify both frequency focusesSet 0002's A frequency to 64 Hz and B frequency to 132 Hz. Keep all other parameters unchanged, then tell me whether B Mix is already active.
Propose a sound-based adjustmentAnalyze the bass on 0002. I want to retain depth while making notes clearer. Consider A and B separately and let me audition before applying.
Confirm after comparisonSwitch back to Original for comparison. After I confirm, apply the previous suggestion and report exactly which parameters changed.
Kick and bass together: multitrack collaboration
Within the same host process, insert the plug-in on kick and bass tracks, verify each identifier and role, then ask AI for group analysis. For example:
0001 is kick and 0002 is bass. Analyze them together: the kick needs impact and the bass needs continuity. Propose complementary settings and let me audition both together.
Wait for 2 tracks ready, then play the same passage in the DAW. Once capture finishes and report processing begins, playback can stop. AI can read each report, propose individual settings, then coordinate preview and application.
A/B within one instance and multitrack collaboration are different: A/B process the audio through one plug-in. Multitrack collaboration connects multiple instances so AI can consider kick, bass or bus measurements together. It does not automatically change host routing or promise sample-accurate phase repair between tracks.
When should I use the plug-in's Analyze button?
The top-panel Analyze button provides built-in intelligent bass analysis: select material type → start analysis → play about 15 seconds → compare Original / Recommended → Apply when satisfied. This uses the plug-in's own recommendation flow and works manually without external AI.
Analysis through AI / MCP sends the objective report to your chosen AI client for interpretation. Use it for natural-language goals, targeted control of both focuses or collaboration between kick and bass instances. Built-in recommendations and external AI suggestions may differ.
Keep control of the process
- For analysis only, say do not change parameters. For preview only, say do not apply.
- Stop listening ends the current capture. Collapse only hides the card; it does not stop the task.
- To prevent AI from adjusting an instance, disable Allow AI control of this instance in its AI settings. Closing the plug-in window alone does not disconnect it.
- Built-in analysis runs locally. MCP returns measurement reports without raw audio. Whether reports and conversations reach external services depends on your AI client.
AI connections require a compatible client and OS. Current Linker supports macOS 12 or later and Windows 10 x64 or later. Follow the installed Linker's instructions. Normal manual plug-in adjustment does not depend on Linker.
Presets and everyday operation
Open the preset browser to choose factory presets or save your settings. Previous/next buttons browse presets. Loading changes the sound, so save your current setup first. The DAW project also saves plug-in parameters.
| Factory preset | What to listen for |
|---|---|
| Clean Foundation | Restrained bass reinforcement. |
| Color Focus / Warm Drive | Differences in enhanced texture and saturation. |
| 808 Anchor / Sub Lock | Deep-bass weight and stability. |
| Small Speaker Lift | Bass audibility on smaller playback systems. |
| Dual Foundation / Kick & Bass Space | How the two paths divide their work; rebalance for your material. |
| Solo Low Check | This preset enables Solo Low to monitor only enhancement. If the full-range sound disappears after loading, turn off Solo Low. |
Knob operation
- Drag knobs vertically; hold Shift or Alt / Option for fine adjustment.
- Double-click a knob to restore its default. Click a number to type a value; Enter confirms and Esc cancels the current entry.
- When a knob has focus, use arrow keys to adjust; Home / End jump to minimum / maximum.
- Before using host automation, check the track's read/write mode so existing automation does not overwrite manual changes.

Frequently asked questions
Ai Linker is installed, but AI cannot find the plug-in. What should I check?
Confirm an enabled dadao MCP connection in the client, an AI-compatible plug-in loaded in the DAW, and Allow AI control of this instance enabled. Refresh as the client requires and list plug-ins again. Linker's information window or menu-bar icon does not prove connection to the target instance.
The plug-in is silent. What should I check first?
Check host playback, track input and valid activation. Then check Solo Low and whether both A/B Mix controls are zero. If analysis detects no audio, inspect routing; raising Input Gain cannot fix absent input.
B seems inactive, or processing remains after collapsing ADV.
B Mix defaults to 0%; raise it to add enhancement. Collapsing ADV only hides controls. An enabled B path keeps processing.
The bass is bigger but the mix is duller. What now?
Lower A/B Mix and reassess the frequency positions in the full arrangement. Check for overlapping enhancement. Try more Tight or less Drive and Harmonics. Resolve kick/bass conflicts at the source, performance or arrangement if necessary.
Should Mono Freq match the enhancement frequency?
No. Enhancement frequency selects reinforcement; Mono Freq selects narrowing. Choose them independently: first judge enhancement, then whether the stereo bass needs narrowing.
Why is bypass much louder or quieter?
Auto Gain cannot guarantee equal perceived loudness, and Original bypasses the plug-in's gain and safety processing. Keep monitoring comfortable and use Out Gain to match the processed sound before comparison, so you do not simply choose the louder option.
Can Sub create an octave below material with no bass?
No. Sub shifts the emphasis of bass processing. It is not octave pitch shifting or subharmonic synthesis. Add new bass parts at the source or arrangement stage.
Can I apply the intelligent-analysis recommendation to the whole song?
It is based only on the captured passage. Check verses, choruses, transitions and the ending after applying. Reanalyze if the material role or sections differ substantially. Analysis and increased loudness do not replace full listening.
What if live playing feels delayed?
The plug-in has internal latency and reports it to the host for compensation. Audio buffers and the entire effects chain also affect live monitoring. Arrange effects to suit actual monitoring needs during recording.
